****ISI Synchronized Skating ****
We are fortunate here at the
programs for our skaters to participate
in to enhance their skating experience.
One of those terrific opportunities is the
ISI Harmony Synchronized Skating Teams!
Synchronized Skating is a competitive team
based production focused on the unison, choreography,
ice formations, and transitions skaters create while
showcasing a themed program. Perhaps one
of the most essential components to a successful
season is the importance of team building
and strengthening relationships between skaters,
coaches, and parents as we all must work together
to achieve our goals. This is a significant
focus to Harmony and drives our success and leadership.
Harmony follows the guidelines established by
the Ice Skating Institute (ISI)
which is a reputable organization recognized for a
“participation not elimination” motto
focusing on recreational figure skating. We offer an
alternative to team skating that enables all ages
and skating abilities to participate and enjoy the
fun and development that synchronized skating
brings to every member. A team is made up of
8-24 skaters in the following age divisions determined by
the majority age of team members
as of July 1st, Tot (majority 6 & under),
Jr. Youth (majority 8 & under), Youth (majority 9-11),
Sr. Youth (majority 12-14), Teen (majority14-18),
Adult, and Masters.
In our current 2008-2009 season,
we were fortunate to form teams in the
Jr. Youth, Youth, Sr. Youth, and Adult competitive
categories totaling around 40 members! Just for a bit
of background, our program first began in 2000
although under the roof of the Grand Oaks Ice Arena.
Fortunately, the strength of our program lies not within
the walls of a building, but within the hearts of
our members. When increased opportunities
arose for ourskaters/program with the
Hartland Sports Center/Kensington Valley Ice House
in 2004 the decision was made to make the move and
continue to build our program representing the
now titled
Since our arrival in 2004 we have managed to
expand our membership, build the strength of
our program, maintain an affordable budget,
and excel in our performance bringing
home many awards to praise the hard work
and dedication of the skaters.
Our typical season runs from September
through March with at least four local competitions,
exhibitions prior to the Learn to Skate classes,
and performances in the Holiday & Spring Ice Shows.
Our teams practice for one hour a week at the
Hartland Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon/evenings
between 3:15-6:05pm. Off-ice conditioning as
well as cross-skating opportunities are also available.
It is a strong focus of ours to minimize costs where
we can and help keep the season as affordable as
possible in this struggling economy as Harmony Synchro
is a great opportunity andgeared towards participation.
We are looking forward to another terrific
season in 2009-2010 and hope you will join us!
